The final game of the 1st half of the Herts County season and Omega meet Hatfield Eagles. Omega are keen for the win against this team who are currently bottom of the table, so the odds are in our favour.
We were hoping for a strong start with a lead created in the opening quarter, but Hatfield capitalised on our errors throughout. We struggled to get the ball to our shooters and also to gain composure in converting the shots and those errors resulted in Hatfield trailing by just 1 goal going into the 2nd quarter, with a 10-9 score in Omega’s favour.
Some changes in positions for the 2nd quarter, resulted in a smoother transition of ball play and more goals on the scoreboard. The defence also tightened, winning more possession which we used to our advantage. The score by half time was 24-17, with Omega having increased their lead to 7 goals.
The 3rd quarter was similar to that of the 1st with forced errors back into our play, which resulted in the quarter being more evenly matched with goals scored. However, Omega maintained and increased their lead to 9, giving them a cushion going into final quarter.
We knew we had the win in sight and the game was ours to take, but we had to maintain composure, play the safe ball and play our way in the final quarter to achieve it. The team worked hard to heed this advise and applied the pressure on Hatfield, resulting in them erroring more in their play. Whilst we also faltered in our game at times, we were consistent in growing our lead by a further 2 goals to end the game with a comfortable 46-35 win and 5 much needed points for the table.
The team awarded GA, Lucy Hoskin our POM.
Well done Lucy and well done the whole squad for working hard to gel and gain familiarity with each other in this first half of the season. The teamwork is beginning to pay off and with continued working together, the 2nd half of the season is looking to be good.
