By | Local League Match Reports | No Comments
A strong, convincing win of 41 – 15 for our Omega 3rd team tonight against Cheshunt 4.
Superb circle defending throughout, with the Omega defence dominating the circle and turning over possession in our favour on numerous occasions, allowing more attacking opportunities for the team.
Some great teamwork in the shooting circle with confident inter-passing between our shooters to gain a more favourable shooting position and good accuracy on the shots too.
The midfield play grew in precision of pass during the game and by end of the game were taking the time to think about the next ball and what type of pass to give, ensuring good linkages to goal.
The team stormed the win, with Cheshunt 4 trailing from the start and struggling to maintain possession from Centre pass to goal. Well played ladies…solid performance tonight ladies.

Netball Match Report: Omega vs 4th in Table Hatfield Merlins

Final Score: 34-34

Omega faced a tough challenge against the fourth-placed Hatfield Merlins, resulting in a thrilling and hard-fought 34-34 draw. The game was marked by standout defensive efforts, moments of attacking brilliance, and relentless pressure from both sides, making for an intense and entertaining match.

Quarter 1: Defensive Interceptions and Precision Shooting (10-7)

Omega made a strong start, with their centre court defense consistently disrupting Merlins’ attacking flow. Key interceptions from the C and WD helped to turn over possession, giving Omega opportunities to convert. GA Leanne was in exceptional form, netting an impressive 6 out of 6 shots, giving Omega a narrow but deserved 10-7 lead at the end of the quarter.

Quarter 2: Circle Defense on Fire, Attack in Sync (22-17)

Omega’s circle defense dominated in the second quarter, making six crucial interceptions to thwart Merlins’ attempts to close the gap. Despite the height and physicality of the opposing defenders, Omega’s shooters kept their composure, converting 12 of their 14 attempts. The attack worked efficiently to bring the ball down the court, with the WD and GD stepping up to support transitions into the circle. This cohesive play allowed Omega to extend their lead to 22-17 at halftime.

Quarter 3: Pressure Takes Its Toll (28-25)

The third quarter saw Merlins apply relentless defensive pressure, forcing Omega’s shooters to take more long-range attempts. The increased distance resulted in more missed shots than in the first half, allowing Merlins to narrow the gap. Omega showed moments of brilliance but began to show cracks under the intensity, finishing the quarter with a reduced lead of 28-25.

Quarter 4: Fighting to the Final Whistle (34-34)

The final quarter was a tense battle as Merlins continued to apply pressure, making it difficult for Omega to feed their shooters effectively. Merlins’ shooters protected their space under the post brilliantly, securing rebounds from missed shots and converting key opportunities. Despite Omega’s best efforts, the opposition’s resilience saw the game end in a thrilling 34-34 draw.

Player of the Match

GA Leanne stood out for her exceptional accuracy in the first half, scoring key goals to keep Omega in contention. Her composure and precision were crucial in building Omega’s early lead.

Summary

Omega can take pride in their defensive efforts and attacking play in the first half but will reflect on how to better handle sustained pressure in future games. The draw demonstrates their resilience against a strong and physical Hatfield Merlins team. Omega will look to build on this performance in their next fixture.

Omega 1 vs Royston 1 – Saturday 11th January 2025

Omega vs Royston - ER 11th Jan 2025
The second Regional game of the second half of the season and Omega have a home game against Royston, so an intra-Herts contention.
Royston had attained a strong score against MK Netters in their game the weekend prior and with Omega also loosing their midcourt anchor to a serious injury resulting in a new setup for the game, Omega were nervous.
This was evident in Omega’s play in the opening minutes of the 1st quarter as they struggled to take the ball to a shooting opportunity, allowing Royston to take the first 3 goals of the game and an early lead of 6-2 to further exacerbate the nervous tension in Omega’s play. However, Omega were keen to rid the nerves and gain composure in their game and as the quarter progressed, they began to succeed in their quest, limiting the lead to just 3 goals to go into the 2nd quarter, with a score of 11-14 to Royston.
The 2nd quarter started fairly matched goal for goal, but Omega gained their stride and snatched a 4 goal roll early in the quarter, closing the lead to just 1 goal by mid-quarter. The familiarity in the new mid-court and attacking setup was beginning to gel and the confidence in each other proved fruitful. Omega faltered in their play with some basic errors, allowing Royston to take a 3 goal roll and regain their lead once more, but Omega dug deep to keep themselves in the game and ended the 1st
half with a score of 25-26 to Royston.
Omega knew they had to maintain their game play and composure to allow them to gain the win they wanted. The 3rd quarter was a step up in Omega’s performance and as they tightened their defensive play, they forced Royston to error on several occasions, forcing balls off the goal line and held-ball calls consistently. Amazing circle defence resulted in missed shots and Omega snatching the rebounds and capitalising on the wins with superb shooting accuracy from Omega shooters. They managed to limit Royston to scoring just 4 goals this quarter, whilst gaining 15 themselves, resulting in Omega gaining the lead going into the final quarter with a score of 40-30 in their favour.
The final quarter and Omega know the game is not won until the final whistle. They know they have to maintain the possession on their centre passes and covert every goal. They falter on occasion, but in the main they continue to apply the pressure on their opponents. A battle in this quarter to gain the win but the lead proves too much for Royston to grapple at and Omega grow their lead further, ending the game 54-41 to Omega.
A game of 2 halves, with Omega struggling with nerves and the ability to settle into the game 1st half but amazing teamwork and composure in the second half with continuous defensive pressure applied to turn the game. This coupled with fantastic accuracy in the shooting circle and the new setup gaining familiarity in the game, allowed Omega to take the win they came for.
A big thanks to Lucy Hoskin and Andrea Kinninmonth for being ready in kit to take the court if needed, to support the small, depleted squad. And a well done to Megan Woods on her debut game as a squad player, stepping up to take the place as the mid-court anchor and settling into the game and squad well today.
Royston awarded POM to GK, Mary Ogunseitan. Well deserved Mary.
